Removable bridge (prosthesis with metallic frame):
What is it?
A removable bridge is a removable prosthesis that allows replacing the missing teeth.
It has two parts:
- A metallic frame with two hooks that are fixed to existing teeth.
- A part made out of resin that supports the artificial teeth replacing the missing ones.
The metallic frame is submerged in resin and is applied to the gum at that level, so that the gum is protected from inflammations and irritations. In some cases, invisible precision linking devices will replace the hooks to better stabilize the whole.
Recommendations:
It can replace many teeth when the placement of implants is not an option or the patient does not want to use implants.
Benefits:
- The removable bridge rests over the remaining teeth, over the gum and over the sub-adjacent bone. It has a great stability.
- The procedure is performed without anesthesia and it is painless.
- The placement is easy.
- It preserves natural teeth.
- Its material is biocompatible.
- It has good resistance to corrosion.
- It is light.
- And it is less expensive than fixed bridges.
Steps of the procedure:
First visit to the dentist:
The dentist makes the mould of the remaining teeth. The elaboration of a removable prosthesis, specific and unique for each patient, is then executed.
Second visit to the dentist:
Finally, the dentist installs the removable bridge.
Inconveniences:
- A removable prosthesis requires some days of adaptation.
- Most of the weight is supported by the remaining teeth. So our practitioners make sure to place the prosthesis correctly so that it can be supported by the remaining teeth and the gum.
- Once you are wearing a removable bridge, the food can get stuck in the empty spaces. You will have to have good oral hygiene.
